The plant and its fruit are commonly called Goldenberries, Cape gooseberry, golden berry, Incan berry, Aztec berry, Pichuberry, Peruvian groundcherry to name but a few but also known by botanical name Physalis periviana.
They come from the Andes and derived from a combination of potatoes and tomatoes which is part of the nightshade family Solanaceae
