Sugar, Carbohydrates & Diabetes how are they all linked together?
Refined or simple carbohydrates include sugars and starches that don’t exist in nature these are refined grains that have been stripped of all bran, fibre, and nutrients. We should aim to avoid refined carbohydrates and added sugars as much as possible.
Refined carbohydrates are rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream, causing risky spikes in blood sugar and insulin levels. Whereas choosing no refined carbohydrates full of fibre to get absorbed slowly into our systems, avoiding spikes in blood sugar levels. Examples: whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and beans.
