Essiac Tea – Cancer Cure or Not

Essiac Tea (the tea of life) is a herbal tea / remedy made of root, bark and leaves which is reported to help prevent or cure cancer.

Created by a Canadian nurse Renee Caisse who named it after herself but spelling her name backwards.

Main Ingredients in Essiac Tea

Burdock Root (Arctium lappa) – antibacterial qualities, antioxidant, reducing inflammation

Sheep Sorrel (Rumex acetosella)

Slippery Elm (Ulmus rubra)

Indian Rhubard Root (Rheum palmatum)

Flor Essence Ingredients

This is a blend of eight herbs the four original ones with the addition of the ones below:

Watercress (Nasturtium officinale)

blessed thistle (Cnicus benedictus)

red clover (Trifolium pratense)

kelp  (Laminaria digitata)

Both Essiac and Flor Essence formulas individual herbs have molecules with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, or immunostimulatory activity which have been identified.

History of Essiac Tea

Created by a Canadian nurse Renee Caisse and co-developed with Dr Charles Brusch.

It Is believed to be a traditional remedy used for hundreds of years by the Native American Ojibwa Indians. They call it the holy drink because they believe it brings the body back into balance with the great spirit. This knowledge was shared with Rene Caisse, who perfected it with Dr Charles Brusch.

Rene Caisse treated her cancer patients from the 1920s until her death in 1978 with this ancient remedy with reported great success.

In 1937 Essiac came within three votes of being legalised as a cancer treatment.

Cancer Fighting Essiac Tea

Currently, there is no scientific evidence but many people believe it has helped them.

A study in 2016 Natural cures for breast cancer treatment  found that burdock might slow the growth of breast cancer tumors which is one of the ingredients in the tea.
