Vegan Custard

Vegan Custard is so simple to make and one of my favourite things to eat, assuming it comes from childhood when it seemed to be served with every dessert at school and home.

It is easy to make, using Birds Custard powder which is vegan, assuming accidental vegan but still great news for anyone who loves custard.

Update

I started out by making it using soya milk as I felt naturally creamy.  Then as oatly became available, I made vegan custard with that.

As the years have evolved I have moved over to hazelnut milk which I love in my custard along with dark brown sugar to make it taste like caramel. yummy

Always remember you could add a plant based cream to make it extra rich. Which there a number available now like alpro, oatly, elmlea and the coconut collaborative to name but a few options now available.

Update

If you want to buy ready-made custard, Alpro make a soya version in a box in most supermarkets. It is naturally dairy free so lactose free so seems to have it in the free from isles. Alpro also offer a long life option on the shelves or fresh version in the cold cabinet with a shorter shelf life.

There are others now as well like oatly and the coconut collaborative offers ready made custard.
